Who makes Jackalo's clothing?
Three reasons to love our production partner
We absolutely love working with our newest production partner in Mumbai, India. Here's a few reasons why:
"Our aim is to create millions of breadwinners, not a few millionaires."
Our partner has an explicit mission to empower disadvantaged women— and in turn their children, families, and entire communities.
They are "Guaranteed Fair Trade", meaning they pay fair wages and don't use child labor (a low bar, but sadly uncommon in the garment industry!)
Trained sewers join as members of smaller Fair Trade Cooperative Groups, which are self-managed by their women members.
They are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified. This means they have met strict ecological and social criteria.
It feels good knowing our clothes come from organic farming practices. It feels even better to know that those organic fabrics are never treated with bleach or other harsh, toxic chemicals and dyes.
That's a win for the environment and human health!
Women who work there also benefit from
- Free childcare during the day
- Education scholarships for their children
- Awareness programs led by social workers on topics including: gender equality, violence against women, legal issues, and more.
We hope you enjoyed learning more about the story of where your clothes actually come from.
It makes wearing them (or dressing your kids in them) feel all the more meaningful. 😊
