At Jackalo, we strive to be as circular as possible. Eighty-five percent of all textiles end up in the landfill, and less than 1% are recycled.
We want to be part of the solution to this problem. That means that we need to think about our products differently, from start to finish. Or rather, from start to starting again.
Not all products work for the circular economy. With today’s technology, we can’t really recycle clothes that are made from fabric blends. That’s why we design our clothes using fabrics that can be recycled using today’s technology. For us, this means natural fibers (that are also compostable!) and avoiding blends.
We take the issue of textile waste seriously. We recycle the scrap fabric generated during our production process.
Whenever possible, we upcycle larger scraps to create something new, beautiful, and functional with our accessories. This allows us to reduce waste and keep usable materials from ending up in landfills. Since the materials used may be limited, each accessory can have its own distinctive look and feel. We love the idea of creating something special and different from the mass-produced accessories you commonly find in stores. It's our way of adding a personal touch to everything we make.
At Jackalo, we believe in the importance of creating a culture of repair and reuse. We want to help you learn to repair and reuse your clothing, that's why we offer our mending guide and other resources to promote a culture of repair and reuse. We also design our products so they can be easily repaired, making it easier to keep loved clothes in use longer. Together, we can slow things down a little and go back to the old-fashioned way of making loved clothes last.
But if you aren’t up for learning to repair your kids’ clothes, that’s ok. We also offer free repairs on all clothes within six months of purchase.
At Jackalo, we are proud to be the first children's clothing brand in America to offer a buy-back program. When Jackalo clothes are outgrown, we'll buy them back to be renewed and resold, or responsibly recycled. We hope to one day use the recycled clothes to make our own fabrics, thereby becoming fully circular. When you participate in our TradeUP program, you take an active role in promoting sustainability and reducing waste AND you make high-quality, organic products available to more families at a reduced cost.
