I have some happy news I’m still a little giddy about. Jackalo was named to The Sustainability Awards’ list of the Top 100 Sustainable Companies of 2026, and we were recognized for our Broken In collection.
The list celebrates businesses of every size that are finding better ways to make things and use them. When I read what the judges wrote about us, I teared up a little. They understood exactly what we’re trying to do.
What The Sustainability Awards said
Kids grow out of clothes. That’s a given. What happens to those clothes next is a choice, and Jackalo is building a business around making that choice count. Its Broken In collection takes unsellable secondhand jeans from UK thrift stores and turns them into one-of-a-kind children’s clothing, without growing new cotton or weaving new fabric. The result uses up to 98% less water and delivers up to 80% lower overall carbon impact than making denim from scratch. These aren’t delicate pieces made to look sustainable on a hanger, either...
Circularity here isn’t a feel-good extra. It’s built into the clothes, the business model and what happens after the final growth spurt.

Why this means so much to me
The judges saw what’s at the heart of Jackalo: sustainability isn’t a label we stick on at the end. It shapes how we design, how we make things, and what happens after your kid is done with them.
What Broken In is all about
Thrift stores receive more donated denim than they can ever sell. Some of it is damaged, but not unusable. We saw that extra denim as a chance to make something new without starting from scratch.
Broken In gives those pre-loved jeans a second life as the Billie Jacket, the Ash Pant, and the Jules Pant. Every pair of jeans these are made from is different, so every Broken In piece is one of a kind.
We make the collection with our manufacturing partner, Bank & Vogue / Beyond Remade. This same group as worked with such well-known brands as Wrangler, Coach, Converse, and Gap. Their work rescuing pre-loved denim makes Broken In possible.
Built for real play
As a mom, I’ve always believed the most sustainable clothes are the ones kids actually wear, again and again. Broken In is sturdy and reinforced, made for muddy knees, playground slides, and every adventure in between.
What happens when kids outgrow it
When your kid outgrows their Broken In pieces, we’ll buy them back through TradeUP for store credit. Then they go to the next family, ready for another round of play. Learn more about our TradeUP program.
Thank you
Thank you to The Sustainability Awards for this recognition. And thank you to every family who has handed down, traded in, mended, and kept clothes in play a little longer. This one belongs to you too.
